"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." Lao Tzu
And so my journey begins with this first post, just 5 days away from my departure. I am entering a new stage in my life, one that will hopefully be just as great or even better than the one I leave behind.
I will be going abroad, across the pond, in the land of Her Majesty, to pursue my studies in law at the University of Birmingham. I hope to accomplish many professional and academic goals, but at the same time, I want to enjoy myself and to become immersed in a new culture and new traditions. While this is not my first time away from home, in a foreign country, it is, nevertheless, a new experience and one that I have been eagerly awaiting for the past few months. The first time I went to Spain, in the summer of 2010, to work for the Canadian Embassy in Madrid, and it was, without doubt, one of the best experiences in my life. You can check out some of the blog entries here: http://madalina.travellerspoint.com/ Granted, this was my very first blog, and I had no idea how to approach it, so if it looks amateur, well, it's because it is.
I will be in the UK for at least one year, and I plan to travel not only there, but in Europe as well, and maybe find some time to revisit beautiful España.
The plan is to write a new entry every couple of weeks (we'll have to see how well this is going to work), in order to keep track of my adventures and to reflect on my life in the UK (but truly, the main reason is to avoid home sickness and to not miss my family and friends as greatly as I surely will). I taught my mom how to use skype when I was in Spain, so I hope she remembers. I will truly miss my loved ones here in Canada, and this is my way to stay in touch and to document interesting travels and stories.
